Meet Dr. Carla Smiley, an audiologist who was keenly aware of the challenges for people in her surrounding community and set out to do something about it. She realized that while many could be served at her physical location, there were still countless others in need who could not.
Here is what she had to say.
Excerpt from her story, “This vision inspired me to build a tiny-house hearing clinic on wheels. It’s more than a mobile unit; it’s an audiological experience that reimagines how and where audiology can be delivered. And it helps break through geographic, economic, cultural, and systemic barriers.”
Mobile audiology services at Onsite Audiology was created to address this need. These services are now open to schools, early intervention services centers, senior care, education agencies and industrial facilities.
This is what we call meeting families where they are which can make all the difference. Read more about her story in the ASHA Leader.
